Sprites Introduction

December 14, 2009 by midnighticequeen

Well, I’ve been keeping this VN to myself for a while, it was suppose to be really small, but of course, it expanded into something bigger and I have yet to actually share any news or pictures. So I decided today was as good as day as any to start. Just a warning, I suck at backgrounds since I hardly ever do them, but I’m proud of what I’ve been able to achieve so far. I improved a lot from just this one game and I know I can’t go no where else but up.

The Pros and Cons of Learning

December 13, 2009 by midnighticequeen

Since I’m a new to VNs and just starting to work with Renpy, I generally expect to make a lot of mistakes before I improve, but sometimes it still blows my mind how backwards I go about accomplishing some things. Making even a simple VN requires some thought and work, and making a “it was suppose to be simple, but then it elevated into something much more” VN takes even more work.

My first VN has been stalled for a while. I had initially started working very quickly on it, even got 2/3 of the story and the images done, but like most I’ve improved in my thought process and drawing abilities since then. Now that I look back, I see a lot of things that I need to change, how I could have made the process much more easier on me, and how much my images seem to suck now, but with grief comes growth and I learned a lot just by messing, much more than I would have learned from getting it right. I guess I’m just hard headed like that, who know?

I learned to never again start drawing and coloring my images until I am absolutely sure that they meet my expectations, or if I will use them in the first place. Countless hours went into CGs that I realized I probably won’t be needing after I rewrite my VN. I also learned that I should flesh out my main plot a lot more before I start writing, and research more on my subject. I finally learned how to do image maps, which before boggled my mine before. And now I’ll have to get use to the new and improved Renpy, which looks a lot more easier to use than the older versions.

I also realized that you never to smart to learn new things, I’ve been studying how to be a better writer and artist. I even learned how to paint with watercolors, which I think will be handy in my VN ideas in the future. I’m starting to learn more about perspective and composition, but everything I learn means tearing down my old ideas and starting over. It’s no wonder it’s taking me so long to finish my first Visual Novel

Can’t wait to finish it though, it will be a big victory moment for me, but until then I will continue working on my other projects, especially since this semester of school is over and I have a lot more free time!

Foxtaile update

September 14, 2009 by midnighticequeen

thumb copyWell, it’s been a while since I’ve updated, but I have finally been able to get some freetime this weekend. The first 2/6 script of Foxtaile is already completed, I hope to finish the scripting for the rest of the game will be completed at least by Wednesday, give or take a day or to I spend on school work.

I finally got some more time and inspiration to work on Foxtaile, and I think I may have an idea on how I’ll create the backgrounds for the game too. Only time will tell how far I’ll get on this game, but I plan to have the story fully scripted by mid October January at the latest. Wish me luck!

More on Foxtaile

June 2, 2009 by midnighticequeen

Well, it seems maybe two of the music for the Foxtaile soundtrack actually work, while about 36+ music clips don’t. Unfortunately, the musician is really hard to contact, despite the fact that I set up a AIM to contact, left two comments on his website, and sent him an email, he still didn’t get get in contact with me. I sure hope the music aseptic of Foxtaile picks up soon, because it was the only fully complete area I thought I didn’t have to worry about. But if I can’t get a copy of all the music from the composer, then I don’t know what I’ll have to do…

On the bright side though, I did find two more artists willing to help out with Foxtaile and take some of the weight load off of Rioka, so that’s good. One of the artists goes by the name JoaoDavid and his deviant account can be found here and the other goes by the name nunofrias and he can be found here. I also have a possible person willing to do the background for Foxtaile, but only time will tell.

Oh yes, Rioka sent me some new pictures for Foxtaile, so here’s your sneak peak!

Well, that’s all for today, so for now I’ll get back to my work now, bye!

Foxtaile Status

May 19, 2009 by midnighticequeen

thumb copyI finally managed to go over the whole script of Foxtaile and it is stunning how much artwork needs to be completed in order for this game to be complete.  I don’t want to break Rioka’s back with the heavy responsibility of handling all those images by myself. She might quit on me and then I’d cry and never get this done!
So I posted a help wanted thread on deviant, heck I might post one on wordpress too. Hopefully someone wants to help, or else I’ll have a lot of artwork to get started on…

What I would like:

A background artists: only because we have plenty of backgrounds, some of them needing several different variations and I don’t like to put to much pressure on just one person

A programmer: Honestly, I suck at programming, it’s like…not even funny.

A composer: Ours seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth, I sent him numerous messages but got nothing. Wonder what happened.

Well, there’s my wish list for this Christmas.

2nd Project- Foxtaile

May 14, 2009 by midnighticequeen

Taleweaver gave me permission to finish the game he started named Foxtaile. The story is already written, some of artwork is already done, but there is still some work to be done. All the backgrounds will have to be remade, the script still has to be programmed by someday,  and who knows how many other things need to be completed before this project is finished.

Foxtaile takes place in the aftermath of the Japanese civil war (the Sengoku Jidai; around 1600). The worlds of gods and men collide when a wounded samurai is rescued by a group of fox spirits. A tale of trust and betrayal, of love and loss follows, and the outcome is determined by the actions of a single female fox spirit: You.

Luckily I like a challenge, if I end up having to do all of the backgrounds myself then that’s fine I guess, and the artist for Foxtaile is willing to work with me on this. Here is some pictures were drawn for the story. As you can see, the game already has awesome artwork, and it even has a voiced introduction, which sounds amazing.

I’ll update later when I can

1st Completed project

May 11, 2009 by midnighticequeen

My first renpy project was finished in the spirit of Mother’s Day, though I wouldn’t really consider it a game. As a side note though, I’m really glad to be finished with my project, no matter how small it maybe.  I learned a lot of new things with just this project alone, I can’t wait to see what I’ll figure out in the next couple of projects.

Make sure you all have let your mother know how special she is and how much you appreciate her, have a nice day.

Here are some screenshots for the Mother’s Day Special:

Yeah, the customization looks pathetic right. I know, one day I’ll get better at it and it’s not like I’m not going to update and add new things to it every year. She’s my mother after all, she deserves the best.
